MTB route from Tortosa to La Font de Quinto
The first stage of this MTB route is urban, going around the Hotel until crossing the river and heading away from the city centre along the riverbank. The second stage moves away from the city to visit the nearby towns of La Petja, Campredó and La Font de Quinto, among others. This is a more rural environment where each track is an adventure for lovers of mountain biking. The final stage goes into Tortosa again to get to know the centre of the city, have a rest and visit the Teodoro González Park. To finish, cross the river back to the Hotel.
With a total length of 28.5 kilometres, this route has a total height gain of 310 m with many intense climbs after kilometre 12, and a relatively flat ride until then. The highest point on the route is at kilometre 26, with an altitude of 36 m above sea level. The maximum gradient is 20.4% and the average gradient is 1.7%.
Leave the Hotel, heading away from the river along Avinguda Ports Tortosa-Beseit, and immediately turn off at the third exit at the first roundabout. A flat and straight track takes you to the Camí dels Codonyers. After crossing the river over the Pont Roig Bridge, the route goes downstream along the riverbank through a small strip of park that connects the riverbank with Teodoro González Park, the green lungs of the city where you can take a break on the way back. Cross this park, passing the Felip Pedrell Auditorium, and continue along the Passeig de Ribera until joining the Camí del Mig after passing underneath the C-42 motorway. You will now be entering a rural landscape.
Having warmed up your muscles with the first 3 kilometres of riding through the urban area, you can now enjoy 10 flat kilometres on simple tracks. The route takes turns to distance itself from and approach the Ebro River and the Esquerra de l’Ebre Canal. You will need to turn off to tackle the first ascent of the route after passing La Font de Quinto and when the track brings you back to the river.
The first climbs take you up to the Campredó Tower, which is also where you turn round and start back towards Tortosa on mainly rural roads until you reach the city by asphalt and dirt roads. There are small towns among the way, such as Campredó, where you can stop to have something to eat and drink.
Once back in Tortosa, follow the railway lines and cross them, heading towards Teodoro González Park. The park is the last green space that you will visit before you enter the historic centre and return to the Hotel on the other side of the river.
