MTB route from Tortosa to Alfara de Carles

This interesting round-trip MTB route runs 34 kilometres between the Hotel and Alfara de Carles, with an accumulated height gain of 643 m ridden on asphalt tracks and stony ground.

Your day starts when you leave the Hotel in the direction of Jesús, a village to the west of Tortosa, to follow semi-asphalted sections via Els Reguers until you meet the Dreta de l’Ebre Canal. Follow this hydraulic infrastructure used to irrigate the Terres de l’Ebre in parallel to agricultural areas until entering the foothills of “Els Ports”.

This first part of the itinerary follows a route of 8 km by small ramps of no more than 3% that you can use to warm up before entering the natural park.

Starting at kilometre 10 of the route, you will start to climb more rustic routes along the slopes of Parc Natural dels Ports with more enthusiasm and energy; the aim is to go into the mountains and find a total of 6 climb intervals with gradients of between 10% and 20% over the next 6 kilometres.

After several physically demanding curves, you reach the highest peak at 377 metres and make a short descent to the town of Alfara de Carles on kilometre 16 of the route.

As you continue on your way and leave Alfara de Carles behind, the gears will notice the descent of the mountain along rough tracks and with rather tight curves that take you back to the plains of the Ebro Delta. There is a descent of approximately 6 kilometres until you get back onto the Dreta de l’Ebre Canal and continue through an extensive area of crops back to the Hotel.
