MTB Route from Tortosa to Cova d'en Rubí
This is a short but very varied route that combines asphalt roads and rough tracks through the municipality of Tortosa, with the caves of Cova d’en Rubí on the Serres de Cardó-el Boix mountains being of particular interest.
From the hotel, cross the bridge over the Ebro River towards the city of Tortosa to reach Pujada de Tenasses, an asphalt road with gradients of up to 17% to get up to the fort of the same name. Following this track, you will encounter several considerably difficult climbs until you reach the fork on the Serres de Cardó-el Boix, with gradients of 17-19% in intervals of 54 metres.
The fork represents the start and finish of a high circuit to the caves at Cova d’en Rubí, an area of natural and archaeological interest in Tortosa. It involves a round trip of approximately 4 kilometres. Start the circuit in an anti-clockwise direction, putting your stamina to the test with two tracks that climb, one at the beginning of the first part the circuit with an average gradient of 12% over an interval of 683 m, and another in the direct climb to the cave, with a height gain of 22% over 296m.
From the cave, drop down to Tortosa along a very uneven stony track. The last section through the Vall de l’Ebre follows a route of over 10 kilometres on dirt, cement and asphalt roads and tracks back to the Hotel.
