Family bike route from Tortosa to Estació d'Aldover
This easy, interurban family cycle route is ideal to do with the children, enjoying a bike ride that lets you explore the area around Tortosa and get away from the town centre and the riverside for a day. The route takes you through the surroundings of the Hotel, and after a short stretch along the banks of the Ebro River, leads towards the nearby villages of Jesús and Aldover on a trip replete with nature and views of local landscapes, following the Val de Zafán Greenway.
With a total length of just over 13 kilometres, starting and ending at the Hotel SB Corona Tortosa, this ride has a total height gain of 35m with the main ups and downs found between kilometres 3 and 5, and 11 and 13. The highest point on the route is at the end of kilometre 3 and reaches an altitude of 27 m above sea level. The rest of the route is easy and relatively flat, following tracks or secondary roads with little traffic, most of which is slow.
Leave the Hotel heading downhill through the surrounding area, enjoying a brief panoramic view of the Ebro before connecting with the Val de Zafán Greenway to head towards the outskirts of Tortosa. Pedal upstream bordering the Lluis Companys Park, after which you follow a short stretch of Comarcal Highway 12 until reaching the centre of the village of Jesús, skirting around it and leaving the parishes of Jesús and Sant Francesc to one side.
Follow the Xerta highway and immediately head towards a rural landscape along Cami del Terrer Roig. A double row of trees on each side of the road indicates that you have to turn right just after kilometre three of the route towards a lane that leads almost directly to Aldover without turning off. The shade provided by the trees and their beauty make this a good place to stop and have a drink before continuing.
From here, until you return to this same point on the way back, the route is very rural, with the main attraction being the nature, landscape and views compared to characteristic buildings, markets, monuments and parks on the urban routes. Cross the Barranc del Riu Sec and the Barranc de les Codines del Cleto, after which the route brings us closer to the river after kilometre 5. You will be able to see one of the Ebro islands from the shore. This geological formation has allowed this small piece of land to be conserved in its natural state with hardly any human intervention. Join the Ebro Canal and continue on to Estació d’Aldover at the end of the route.
There is food and drink available at the railway station, as well as pleasant areas to have a rest before starting the ride back. Once you’ve got your strength back, just retrace your steps and voilà, a whole day out on the bike.
