Delta de l’Ebre
This gravel route offers a unique experience through the unmistakable landscape of the Ebro Delta, with spectacular views and mostly flat terrain. The starting point is at Hotel SB Corona in Tortosa, following the old Val de Zafán Via Verde (greenway) to the town of Amposta. The entrance to the town is across the historic suspension bridge, an architectural emblem of the region. Once in Amposta, the route continues along Camino de Sirga to the modern Pont Lo Passador, a bridge which connects the two banks of the Delta. From here, you cycle along the river’s edge between reed beds, immersed in a peaceful natural environment, before entering the area’s emblematic rice paddies.
The route progresses to the Eucaliptus housing estate, where you start to ride along wide tracks and seemingly endless furrows. Here, you are surrounded by the impressive lagoons of La Tancada and La Encanyissada, protected natural spaces inhabited by a great variety of aquatic birds, including flamingos. One of the highlights of the route are the Ullals de Baltasar, natural freshwater springs that emerge in the middle of the rice fields. This hydrological phenomenon is due to groundwater rising to the surface, creating a unique little ecosystem that is worth exploring.
Finally, you return to Tortosa following the Via Verde (greenway), completing this circular route full of beauty and natural contrasts.
