Circular gravel route through Alfara de Carles

This is a perfect route for those who are new to gravel biking and do not require very high physical and performance conditions. It is a short route with only a 5 km mountain pass in the middle of the route with a demanding finish with ramps of 10% – 12%. Most of the route is on secondary roads (70%), a paved greenway (20%) and dirt roads with gravel (10%). The roads are very safe secondary roads with very little traffic, which allow you to cycle with complete peace of mind.

Leaving the Hotel SB Corona Tortosa we will look for the Pont Roig (red bridge) of Tortosa to take the greenway that leads us to Roquetes. Right next to the sports centre we take a path to directly access the Carretera dels Reguers with the imposing Mount Caro in front of us.

These first km constitute a gradual and moderate climb through olive trees until the start of the small mountain pass of ascent to Alfara de Carles. It is 5 km at a 3.5% gradient, but with a demanding last km with some short ramps with a 12% incline. Once we reach the top of the pass, we descend to the village, where we can take advantage of a break to continue the other half of the route with regained strength.

This second part is downhill and combines the greenway. It is a very beautiful stretch between forests and birdsong, crossing part of the Els Ports Natural Park. Once we leave the greenway, we take a forest track with gravel but not so technical where we can ride at a good speed. Finally we enter the old road of ́Alfara, a narrow road between housing estates, but with very long straight lines that make it possible for us to reach the Greenway junction in a very short time. The final part we will cycle along the Greenway again from Roquetes to the Pont Roig of Tortosa and directly to the Hotel SB Corona Tortosa.
